Cultural Sensitivity

Orangeville Minor Soccer Club (Storm FC) – Cultural Sensitivity

During coaching interviews, we emphasize cultural sensitivity and the importance of understanding cultural
diversity within the Orangeville Minor Soccer Club. This topic is a key focus at our Coaches Kick-OƯ Meetings at the
beginning of the Winter and Spring/Summer Seasons. We provide resources and training to ensure that coaches
are equipped to foster an inclusive environment for all participants. Our goal is to promote respect and
understanding among players, families, and the broader community.
The following talking points are discussed during interviews and meetings:

  • Engaging Conversations: Having open discussions with players about respect and the value of diversity.
  • Cultural Learning: Encouraging athletes to explore and learn about diƯerent cultures.
  • Holistic Coaching: Focusing on the whole person by addressing mental, spiritual, and cultural aspects, in
    addition to physical development.
  • Diverse Media: Utilizing various forms of media that showcase diƯerent cultures to broaden perspectives.
  • Peer Connections: Encouraging athletes to take time to learn about each other and their unique
    backgrounds.
  • Respect Rules: Ensuring all teams understand the importance of respecting diƯerences and maintaining a
zero-tolerance policy for bullying, teasing, or discrimination.
  • Inclusive Culture: Establishing a culture of inclusion where everyone feels welcome and valued.
  • Sport Equity Awareness: Familiarizing ourselves with sport equity issues to promote fairness and
    accessibility for all participants.

These efforts help create a positive and inclusive environment for everyone involved in the Orangeville Minor
Soccer Club.
